About the Project

Mothers & Daughters is a long-term documentary photojournalism project telling stories about mothers and daughters across generations, cultures, and experiences.

In addition to the gallery on this website, these stories will be shared in a physical exhibition, and the collection will be curated into a published book.

How Mothers & Daughters got started

In the summer of 2016, I set out to photograph some of my friends with their daughters. My own mother passed when I was 23, and photographing these moments was a way to honor her memory and document new memories for people I cared about.

What I found was that when I talked about the project, people immediately began to light up. The mission of project clearly resonated, and the project has grown into a celebration of the special relationships between mothers and daughters in every phase of life.
